The Microwave Department of IMT Atlantique Bretagne-Pays de la Loire, a member of the CRNS Lab-STICC, carries out its training, research and development activities in areas related to the propagation of electromagnetic waves.
Its research and studies focus on the modeling, design, production and characterisation of high frequency devices, antennas and related devices, and the original propagation materials, for their applications in various communications systems (HF, IoT, Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G, Radar...). Hybrid fibre/radio systems and the components of photonic microwave interfaces are also studied. The Department develops many academic, institutional and industrial partnerships linked to its activities.
To carry out its missions, the Microwave Department has different experimental resources available for research:
- Computational Electromagnetics Research Laboratory
- Simulation tools: numerical calculation and CAO
- Technological platform for prototyping (OPTIMO)
- A dedicate space for studying spintronics
- A measuring bech for characterisation of microwaves devices
Within IMT Atlantique Bretagne-Pays de la Loire and in collaboration with other learning institutions (Université de Bretagne Occidentale, Université de Bretagne Sud, ...), training focuses on hardware design of telecommunications systems (the physics of semi-conductors, electronics, electromagnetism, microwave circuits and radio frequency, antennas, propagation and support technologies).
