%X In this paper we present HeloVis: a 3D interactive visualization that relies on immersive properties to improve the user performance during SIGINT analysis. SIGINT, which stands for SIGnal INTelligence, is a field facing many challenges like huge amounts of data, complex data and novice users. HeloVis draws on perceptive biases, highlighted by Gestalt laws, and on depth perception to enhance the recurrence properties contained into the data and to abstract from interferences such as noise or missing data. In this paper, we first present SIGINT and the challenges that it brings to visual analytics. Then, we present the existing work that is currently used in or that fits the SIGINT context. Finally, we present HeloVis, an innovative application on an immersive context that allows performing SIGINT analysis and we present its evaluation performed with military operators who are the end-users of SIGINT analysis.

%X Cyber Security data analysis is an important growing domain: more and more data visualization systems are offered to operators in order to improve their threat detection performances or facilitate suspect behaviors characterization. As today Cyber Security trend is to regroup employees in structures such as Security Operations Center (SOC) or Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), collaborative approach seems to be relevant in this context. We think that 3D Collaborative Virtual Environments (3DCVE) can be used in order to improve users Cyber Situational Awareness, as they can allow them to have a better understanding of a cyber situation by mediating interactions towards them and also by providing different points of view of the same data, on different scales.

%X In this paper we address the question of the relationships between visualization challenges and the representation components that provide solutions to these challenges. Our approach involves extracting such relationships through an identification of the context and the components of a significant number of representations and a comparison of the result to existing theoretical studies. To make such an identification possible, we rely on a characterization of the representation context based on a thoughtful aggregation of existing characterizations of the data type, the tasks and the context of use of the representations. We illustrate our approach on a use-case with examples of a relationships extraction and of a comparison of that relationships to the theory. We believe that the establishment of such relationships makes it possible to understand the mechanisms behind the representations, in order to build a representation design recommendation tool. Such a tool will enable us to recommend the components to use in a representation, given a visualization challenge to address.

%X In this paper, we present the field of Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) and the issues that it raises for visual analytics. ELINT aggregates many of the actual issues that visual analytics face such as huge amounts of data, complex data, complex tasks, missing data and unreliable data. This aggregation of specificities makes ELINT a domain raising many visualization issues. This paper identifies the challenges of ELINT by describing its specificities and identifies the opportunities that ELINT raises for the visualization domain.

%X We propose D3PART (Dynamic 3D Plastic And Redistribuable Technology), a model to handle redistribution for 3D user interfaces. Redistribution consists in changing the components distribution of an interactive system across different dimensions such as platform, display and user. Our work is based on previous models for the creation of 3D plastic user interfaces, interactive systems that can handle context of use modifications while preserving usability. In this previous work, we proposed a task model, a device model and an application component model for the creation of plastic user interfaces that handle the 3D specificities. With D3PART, we extend these models in order to include redistribution capabilities. The final solution lets developers create applications where 3D content and tasks can be automatically redistributed across the different dimensions at runtime. The proposed redistribution process is based on a client-server architecture with a meta-user interface to control the redistribution configuration. In order to illustrate D3PART, we describe three different scenarios of redistribution between a tablet and a CAVE for a 3D application for furniture planning. Indeed, with an implementation of our model, we show how redistribution can be used at runtime to combine these platforms, to switch seamlessly from one platform to another one, and lastly, how redistribution can be used to create a collaborative context of use.

%X In military context, we study the visualization of 3D point clouds sense by a drone flying around a battlefield area equipped with a 3D laser. We propose a user experiment protocol in order to study the effect of stereo and head tracking rendering on a target research task with a virtual reality headset. Our first results show a clear advantage when stereo and head tracking rendering are activated.
%X Nous étudions dans un contexte militaire la visualisation de nuages de points 3D acquis par un laser embarqué sur un drone tournant autour d’une zone de combat. Nous proposons un protocole expérimental permettant d’évaluer l’impact de la vision stéréoscopique et du suivi de la tête sur une recherche de cible avec un casque de réalité virtuelle. Les premiers résultats montrent un avantage lorsque la vision stéréoscopique et le suivi de la tête sont activés.

%X In this paper, we present a process to simulate 3D data; as an unmanned combat aerial vehicle (drone) equipped with a Ladar sensor could do. The data obtained are colored 3D point clouds in where potential targets are highlighted. Our objective with these simulated corpus of 3D point cloud data is to explore the usage of Virtual Reality settings to validate the selection of a target. To do that we detail an implementation of a VR headset to visualize our simulated data. We also introduce a metric to estimate the visibility of the target.

%X Visualizing large and complex datasets is an issue that must be tackled more and more often in the domain of professional systems, given the increasing capacity of data providers. In this paper, we introduce a model supporting the characterization of all the dimensions that have an impact on big and/or complex data representation solutions, which enables us to highlightthe limits of existing visualization solutions.
%X La visualisation de grandes quantités données complexes est un problème de plus en plus courant dans le domaine des systèmes professionnels, en raison des capacités de création et de stockage de données qui augmentent sans cesse. Dans cet article nous présentons un modèle permettant de caractériser l'ensemble des dimensions qui ont un impact sur la représentation de données complexes et/ou en grandes quantités, ce qui nous permet de mettre en avant les limites des solutions de visualisation existantes.

%X In this paper we propose D3PART (Dynamic 3D Plastic And Redistribuable Technology), a model to handle redistribution for 3D user interfaces. Redistribution consists in changing the components distribution of an interactive system across different dimensions such as platform, display and user. We extend previous plasticity models with redistribution capabilities, which lets developers create applications where 3D content and interaction tasks can be automatically redistributed across the different dimensions at runtime.
