On 18 September 2020, IMT Atlantique, the Fondation Mines-Télécom, Airbus and Airbus Développement inaugurated a creative space dedicated to Airbus, called the "Airbus Innovation Lab". This new space is housed on the Nantes site of the IMT Atlantique Incubator. Created in an open-innovation approach, it will welcome employees from Airbus and its subsidiaries, students and staff from IMT Atlantique who will take part in various workshops, as well as Airbus employees with projects.
For the school, this achievement is in line with the actions it is developing in favour of innovation and entrepreneurship. For Airbus, it falls within the scope of the AGUPP programme (Airbus Global University Partnership Programme), an international network of universities and engineering schools aimed at developing the skills and technologies of the future in the aeronautics and space sector.
For Airbus Développement and IMT Atlantique, this new space is the logical continuation of the partnership signed in December 2018 designed to support innovation and the creation of companies and start-ups.
Paul Friedel, president of IMT Atlantique
"This new collaboration between Airbus and IMT Atlantique is priceless. It demonstrates the growing strength of a partnership that has been established for several years and which is reflected in the many projects already carried out together. Current projects include the DISC project, a Franco-German project dedicated to optimising logistics flows and data use. Airbus also participates in the training of engineers, has been a member of the FIL (Formation ingénierie logiciel - Software engineering program) apprenticeship training committee for the past 7 years, and participated in the creation of the FIT (Digital transformation of industrial systems) training course, which opened at the beginning of the month."
An achievement in Airbus' worldwide university network
The Airbus Innovation Lab was developed within the framework of the AGUPP project (Airbus Global University Partnership Programme). This international network built by Airbus aims to develop the skills and technologies of the future for the aerospace industry, in connection with the higher education ecosystem. It is made up of 24 expert partners from the aeronautics and space sector, engineering schools and universities, spread out over 13 countries and 3 continents. The Institut Mines Télécom has been a member of AGUPP since 2014. It is within the framework of this partnership and the implementation of its "Innovation" section that the Airbus Innovation Lab was set up at IMT Atlantique.
For François Paynot, president of the Airbus site in Nantes
"It's very rewarding to have a space dedicated to Airbus in the IMT Atlantique incubator. It will foster entrepreneurship at Airbus and provide accommodation for entrepreneurs from Airbus. By being more present on campus, Airbus will strengthen its links with IMT Atlantique and will be able to organise events bringing together Airbus employees, IMT students and the incubator startups at IMT Atlantique. The Airbus Innovation Lab is designed to foster inspiration and group work."
