First term for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees in Nuclear Engineering SARENA

On 20 September, IMT Atlantique welcomed the first intake of students for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Nuclear Engineering SARENA in the presence of representatives of the consortium's partner universities: Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain), Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland) and Univerza v Ljubljani (Slovenia). This first class is made up of 9 students with 9 different nationalities who have each received an Erasmus Mundus Excellence Grant from the European Union.

First term for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees in Nuclear Engineering SARENA

SARENA, which stands for SAfe and REliable Nuclear Applications, aims to develop scientific, technical and management skills in future engineers, preparing them to work in all areas related to nuclear energy, including operating nuclear reactors and safely managing radioactive waste. This new Erasmus Mundus Master degree in nuclear engineering is unique in the world.

The Master degree course includes 3 complementary semesters of specialization, within a maximum of 3 consortium institutions, followed by 1 semester dedicated to the final thesis project in industry or with a research laboratory. At the end of the course, students will be awarded a double diploma.

For this new program, taught in English, students can choose between two options and therefore two opportunities to travel to study:
- Radioactive Waste Management and Decommissioning (RWMD): IMT Atlantique - Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
- Nuclear Reactor Operation and Safety (NROS): IMT Atlantque, Lappeenranta University of Technology, Univerza v Ljubljani

After a core semester at IMT Atlantique, the students will therefore continue their studies in Finland or Spain.
