IMT Atlantique opens a Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees in Environmental and Energy Management and Engineering (ME3+)

This program of excellence, led by IMT Atlantique in partnership with four European universities, aims to train tomorrow's leaders in the fields of integrative renewable energies, the environment, the circular economy, smart cities and industry 4.0.

The ME3+ Masters degree will succeed the previous EMMC (Erasmus Mundus Master Courses) ME3 in September 2021. Coordinated by IMT Atlantique, the program relies upon a consortium of five main partners - IMT Atlantique, Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary), the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (Italy), the University of Trento (Italy) and the University of Borås (Sweden) - along with a network of industrial and academic stakeholders. Future students are thus offered more opportunities in terms of mobility, options, degrees and job profiles. The ME3+ Master's degree will enable students to obtain multiple degrees and study in at least two countries.

Erasmus mundus ME3+

A multidisciplinary approach

The ME3+ Masters degree is a two-year course which includes 3 academic semesters devoted to the acquisition and consolidation of knowledge and skills, supplemented by a 6-month industrial or research internship. It offers an original approach combining energy and environmental process engineering with management and social sciences. The program also includes information and communication technologies (ICT), drawing on the know-how of IMT Atlantique, which specializes in digital technologies, energy and the environment.

This multidisciplinary vision will enable students to acquire solid scientific, technical, societal and management skills, which are essential for solving the complex issues generated by energy and environmental transitions. The course will train project managers ready to meet the expectations and needs of European companies involved in sustainable development in a wide range of applications (renewable energies, energy efficiency, green construction, the circular economy, water resource management, smart cities, green businesses...). The ME3+ Master's degree fully meets the objectives set out by the Green Deal presented in December 2019 by the European Commission, and the action plan for People, Planet and Prosperity as part of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

One course, two diplomas

The ME3+ program is a certified Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD), and as such provides teaching in English. The Masters offers three options for specialization, leading to several diplomas:

  • Integration of renewable energies and the environment
Master of Science (MSc) in Mechanical Engineering Modeling from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics BME, and MSc in Process and Bioprocess Engineering (MSc PBPE /PM3E) from IMT Atlantique

  • Environment and resource recovery towards the circular economy
MSc with a major in Resource Recovery, a specialization in Energy Technology from the University of Borås, and MSc in Process and Bioprocess Engineering (MSc GHPPB/PM3E) from IMT Atlantique.

  • Smart Cities and Industries 4.0
Joint Master's degree in Energy Engineering from the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and the University of Trento, and Master's degree in Process and Bioprocess Engineering - MSc PBPE /PM3E - from IMT Atlantique)

How to apply?

Access to the M3E+ program is open to candidates holding a university degree in science or engineering - preferably in the fields of chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering or process engineering - or an equivalent degree (minimum 3 years of full-time study) in a scientific or technical discipline.
