Modalities and tools for collaboration

Create or work with us to accelerate your competitiveness

Although the tools and modalities of collaboration between IMT Atlantique and its industrial partners are varied, each of them responds to specific needs defined by the scientific field involved, by the industrial partner's strategy, or by the characteristics of the market, etc.

Depending on whether we plan to transfer a technology already developed by the laboratory and duly protected, or whether we aim to remove a scientific barrier, or whether we simply wish to solve a problem or control and secure an associated property, ad-hoc modes of collaboration can be proposed.

Thesis supervision contracts
Research program around a thesis topic
These contracts are a frequently used method. In this case, the doctoral student is an employee of the company, which receives financial support from the ANRT. The supervisory contract is between the industrial partner and IMT Atlantique. It defines, at a minimum, the involvement of the institute's researchers in the supervision of the thesis and their possible additional involvement. It also clarifies how the ownership of the results will be established in line with the share of the full costs financed by the industrial partner.
Research program entrusted by an industrial partner
The principle is to use IMT Atlantique's resources (staff, permanent or recruited, equipment and various operations) to carry out a research program entrusted by an industrial partner. This program is established during the preparatory dialogue phases of the contract. The resources mobilized, the objectives, the nature of the deliverables, the ownership of the results and the financial aspects are agreed upon before the work begins.

Joint laboratories
A mode of collaboration with an industrial partner
Treatment of medium and long term problems (4 to 5 years or more)
Our laboratories can be financed autonomously by the parties or benefit from the support of public funders: a LabCom ANR-funded call in particular. The school is one component of a series of joint laboratories.

European, national and territorial projects
ITM Atlantique is involved in a large number of collaborative projects with industrial and academic partners.
IMT Atlantique is voluntarily involved in these actions and regularly leads them, relying on the expertise of the specialized support services that assist researchers and partners in the preparation of responses to funding calls for projects.
Depending on the composition and strategy of the consortia mobilized on these projects, and on the efforts of the parties, a sharing of the ownership of the results generated is agreed upon with the concern to satisfy the interests of all.

Patents and intellectual property
transfer of know-how
Access to the expertise and intellectual property of our laboratories
Collaboration with IMT Atlantique can take the form of access to knowledge and intellectual property already held by our laboratories. Industrial partners may request a license for titles of the school's IP portfolio, or even acquire full ownership in certain cases. The terms and conditions of licenses or assignments are examined on a case-by-case basis, naturally taking into account the scope of the titles sought.
Arrangements best suited to your needs
In order to prepare implementation of the different collaboration modes you may be considering, do not hesitate to contact our services to explore the most suitable arrangements for you and the nature of the challenges to be met.

Control of your IP and a complete appropriation of the results of projects is possible against full financing of the costs but interesting financial compromises can also be had when domain-sharing of the licenses concerned is possible.

Also, the Research Tax Credit system (Crédit Impôts Recherche) is a lever that will allow a reduction of the financial burden on the industrial partner.
