Professor Yves Andrès, a specialist in bioprocesses has been head of the Department of Energy Systems and Environment since March 7, 2016.

Yves Andrès has a doctorate in cellular biology and microbiology from the University of Strasbourg and began his career in 1994 at the Ecole des Mines, Nantes, as part of the radiochemistry group of the SUBATECH (Subatomic Physics and Technologies) laboratory (UMR 6457 Ecole des Mines, Nantes, University of Nantes, CNRS IN2P3) where he was particularly involved in the creation of the department of radioactivity metrology, SMART (Department of Measure and Analysis of Radioactivity and Trace Elements), and the development of research themes linked to radioecology.

After a stint in the directorate of studies as head of the entry examinations and admissions department, he became an assistant lecturer in the Department of Energy Systems and Environment at the Ecole des Mines, Nantes. Accredited as Director of Research in methodology engineering by the University of Nantes in 2002, he then became head of the "environmental engineering" research line for the GEPEA (Process Engineering for Environment and Food) Laboratory (UMR CNRS 6144), which is associated to the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) and includes methodology engineering teams from the University of Nantes, the Ecoles des Mines, Nantes and ONIRIS (National College of Veterinary Medicine, Food Science and Engineering). He leads a team researching the use of biotechnologies in the treatment of industrial and anthropic pollution.

Yves Andrès held the position of teaching assistant in the Department of Energy Systems and Environment from 2005 to 2008. He was appointed professor in 2011. Since February 2014 he has also been head of the Project Management for Environmental and Energy Engineering (PM3E) Master of Science programme and coordinator of the Erasmus +, European joint Masters in Management and Engineering of Environment and Energy (ME3) Programme.

Author of a hundred publications in international journals and general published works, he is an expert for ANSES (French national agency for food, environment and work health and safety) and a member of the scientific committee of the International Congress on Biotechnics for Air Pollution Control.
