Marc-Olivier Pahl, whose research in the areas of Internet of Things (IoT) and secure distributed systems have earned him international recognition, took over as head of research in the Department of Network Systems, Cybersecurity and Digital Law at IMT Atlantique in October 2019. He is also head of digital education at the German-French Academy for the Industry of the Future (GFA). As Co-Chair, associate editor and member of the technical program committee of several major conferences and scientific journals, Dr. Pahl has participated in and coordinated numerous collaborative research projects of all sizes, some of which were selected in the framework of the European research and development program Horizon 2020. He brings with him just the right expertise to manage the Cyber CNI Chaire research consortium. This Chaire is the result of a partnership between academic players - IMT Atlantique, Télécom ParisTech and Télécom SudParis - and prestigious industrialists (Airbus Defence and Space, Amossys, BNP Paribas, EDF and Nokia Bell Labs).
Innovative teaching and research
Marc-Oliver Pahl has been teaching at the university level since 2004, after studying at the Universität Tübingen and then obtaining a PhD in computer science on the secure management of distributed heterogeneous systems at the Technische Universität in Munich. He is passionate about new forms of teaching, and has designed several innovative projects, such as iLab, a series of courses dedicated to distributed networks and systems. With more than 2000 students since 2004, iLab is based on an original, practical approach and benefits from the contribution of e-Learning. This project earned Dr. Pahl the prestigious Ernst Otto Fischer Teaching Prize from the Technische Universität of Munich in 2013, along with several other awards in the following years. He is also responsible for the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) "iLabX - The Internet Masterclass" and the "Future Internet of Things" summer course series.
