We are glad to announce the first edition of a 5-day introductory course on deep learning for ocean and atmosphere sciences on June 26-30 2023. The course will be held in person both in Brest and Grenoble (about 20 attendees on each site). Remote attendance will be possible for the lectures.

This doctoral course supported by LEFE/MANU action is co-organized between by MEOM team in Grenoble (Pr. Emmanuel Cosme and Dr. Bruno Deremble) and Odyssey team in Brest (Pr. Ronan Fablet, Pr. Carlos Granero Belinchon and Pr. Lucas Drumetz) is an introductory course to deep learning for ocean, atmosphere and climate scientists. It will cover generic theoretical concepts in machine learning and deep learning and review a variety of neural architectures (fully connected architectures, auto-encoders, recurrent networks,…) and their applications to ocean/atmosphere science. Besides labsessions, it will involve a group project to apply these concepts to a specific ocean-atmosphere-related issue from the formulation of the problem to the interpretation of numerical experiments. Being an introductory course, the pre-requisite includes basics in maths, statistics and python programming.
