MSc in SAfe and REliable Nuclear Applications (SARENA) - Track
The 1st semester is taught at IMT Atlantique in Nantes - France with a focus on basic knowledge in the domains of radioactivity, ionizing radiation/matter interaction, radioprotection and management. These courses will be taught by IMT nuclear physicists and management and social scientists, though, in addition, some courses will also be taught by professors from UPM.
The 2nd semester takes place at Lappeenranta University of Technology - Finland. The courses focus on nuclear thermal-hydraulics, with application on nuclear power plant engineering and nuclear safety, while also partially addressing particle reactor core management.
The 3rd semester is taught in Slovenia, at the University of Ljubljana. This semester includes many course on reactor physics, nuclear safety and reactor materials as well as practical work on the 250 kW TRIGA research reactor at the Jozef Stefan Institute (photo below).
The 4th semester is an industrial or research oriented semester and will take place wherever the internship takes place.
Upon successful completion of the programme, a successful student is expected to be awarded a dual-degree from Lappeenranta University of Technology and University of Ljubljana.
